“God loves your children as they are and the church loves your children as they are because they are children of God”. These are the words of Pope Francis, which he delivered during a meeting with the members of Tenda di Gionata, an association of parents formed in 2018 to show their solidarity with LGBTQ+ Christians. The message of Pope Francis is an embodiment of the core principle and message of Abrahamic religions including Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. God, the creator of the whole universe loves His creation and there is no exception and restriction in the love of God. Therefore, all human beings irrespective of their color, race, sexual orientation, linguistic and cultural background, ethnicity, and any other distinctive feature shared common humanity and they all share the Love of God. Similarly, the other world religions including Hinduism, Buddhism, Zoroastrianism, and numerous other religions preach love, compassion, and equality among human beings. The message of all world religions is to preach love between God and His creation and love between human beings.
Love is the most beautiful and significant part of human life. Every individual human being is entitled to love and be loved. The love can be for parents, friends and it can be a romantic love between two partners. Love can be in different forms, and it cannot be restricted to a particular form. We need to embrace love in its entirety without any exceptions especially the love of God for His creation is unconditional. God did not deprive His creation of His mercy and love. Therefore, one of the most significant themes of the Holy Bible is the love of God. The Holy Bible reiterates that God loves everyone and God has forgiven everyone through Jesus Christ. The Holy Bible states “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16). In this verse of the Holy Bible the word “world” is used and it includes all the creation of God including the members of the LGBTQ+ community. As laid down in the holy verse, God gave his son Jesus Christ for the redemption of all the believers. Therefore, according to the teachings of the Holy Bible, all those individuals who believe in the teachings of Christianity are entitled to mercy and love of God. The members of the LGBTQ+ community, who believe and practice the teaching of Jesus Christ are entitled to the love of God.
Scientific evidence has proved that sexual orientation is not a conscious choice. It means the members of the LGBTQ+ community are born the way they are. Although human beings have the choice to act on their emotions and feelings, however, sexual orientation is part of the human body and individuals do not have the choice to voluntarily choose their sexual orientation. Therefore, members of the LGBTQ+ community have been created by God as they are and their sexual orientation is given by nature. All the Holy Scriptures recognized the special status of human beings as laid down in the Holy Quran “We created man in the best design” (The Quran 95:4). According to the holy verse of the Holy Quran, Allah Almighty has created the human being in the best design. Therefore, in Islamic teachings, men are often referred to as the Ashraful Makhluqat i.e. the noblest of all creatures. If sexual orientation is given by nature and the members of the LGBTQ+ community have been created by Allah Almighty in the best design, then the members of the LGBTQ+ community are entitled to the love and mercy of God like all other human beings.
All religious scriptures have reiterated the significance of love in human life. Kanda Guru Kavasa, a sacred text in Hinduism quotes ” Oh holy Great flame, Grant me with love. You said the spreading love is Para Brahma, for the thing which is everywhere is only Love, And Love is the only thing which is like a soul within us, Love is Kumara, Love is Kanda”. The wordings of the sacred text indicates the importance of love in Hinduism. The sacred text has declared love as the soul of the human body, without a soul human body is worthless, similarly, love is like a soul in human life, without which human life is worthless. The sacred text states that Love is sacred and love is God. There are numerous references to romantic love in the scriptures of Hinduism especially the love of Hindu deity Krishna with Radha is highly revered in Hinduism. Similarly, the holy scriptures of Judaism, Buddhism, and numerous other religions contain similar references. Love is one of the most significant themes of the Hebrew Bible. The most commonly used term for love in Hebrew is Ahava. It is used to refer to the love of God and also used to express the love for the family. The biblical poem “songs of songs” is considered a love poem. It quotes “I am my beloveds and my beloved is mine”, this holy verse explains how love connects human beings with each other and with their creator.
Love is a central theme in all major religions. The holy scriptures of Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, and other religions have embodied the significance of love in human life. Love is declared as a soul of human being and a connection between God and fellow creators. Love is the means to connect with God, understand the mystery of His creation, and to appreciate the divinity in all fellow beings. The Holy scriptures have not imposed any restrictions on the love of the creator, therefore there are no exceptions to the love of God. The love of God is for all His creation including the members of the LGBTQ+ community. Therefore, depriving the members of the LGBTQ+ community of the most significant aspect of human life is not only a violation of human life but it is also contrary to the teachings of major world religions. God loves everyone and there is no exception to the Love of God.
